LG 27UD59 review: successor of inexpensive 4K monitor tested

Good and inexpensive choice even less expensive

By

Conclusion

The LG 27UD58 was and is a popular monitor, and not without reason: LG offers an ips-panel with excellent image quality at a price that competitors cannot match. Reportedly this is because it uses an older panel, but as an end user you do not really notice this.

Like its predecessor, the 27UD59 offers a great deal of quality at a modest price. Of course, just as with that monitor, there are compromises: in terms of functionality, connectivity and not all parts of the test show equally good results. While the color quality of the predecessor was not great, it is very good with this model - but with the '59 we see that the response times are a bit worse than what we saw with the monitor from 2016. The good contrast, adequate brightness and solid but not great viewing angles are things that remain the same.

The accents are a bit different, but as far as we are concerned, the 27UD59 is as good a choice as the well-known model. This is all the more true because LG released it at an even lower price and resellers are going well below that still, as evidenced by the prices that are even less than 350 dollars at the time of writing. That is particularly cheap for an ultra-hd monitor with an ips-panel, and in combination with the test results this is reason for us to reward it with a Great Value award.
