X51 R2 interior

The Alienware R2 X51 has some powerful components inside, components that need a lot of power. Alienware had to make the power supply external. And while the 330W PSU is huge, the advantage of it being external is that all that heat doesn't heat up the other components. Of course you do need to find room for it.

Dell Alienware X51 R2

The Alienware X51 R2 is available in a number of different configurations that can also be customised. The basic version comes with a Core i3-4130, which is a 3.4 GHz Haswell dual-core processor. The graphics card is a GeForce GT645. But who would Alienware be if they sent the most basic model for review? Our test sample came with slightly more powerful hardware, i.e. a quad-core Intel Core i7-4770 clocked at 3.4 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo. It has a TDP of 84W, 8 MB cache and HyperThreading.
