Zotac GeForce GTX 780 AMP! Edition review

Compared to four other GeForce GTX 780 cards

We recently reviewed four overclocked GeForce GTX 780 graphics cards with custom coolers from ASUS, EVGA, Inno3D and MSI. Today Zotac introduced its extreme version of the GeForce GTX 780, the Xotac GeForce GTX 780 AMP! Edition. We tested it and compared it to the other GTX 780s we tested.

Zotac GeForce GTX 780 AMP! Edition v1

Zotac proudly announces the GeForce GTX 780 AMP! Edition as the most overclocked GeForce GTX 780 that's available. While we haven't tested every single GeForce 780 in existence, it is indeed faster than the four we have reviewed so far. The GPU on Zotac card is clocked at 1006 MHz, with a 1059 MHz Boost clock. That makes the GPU as fast as the one on the Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill, and faster than those on the cards from ASUS, EVGA and MSI. The GPU clock frequency of the standard reference card is 863 MHz, which makes the Zotac card 16% faster.

The memory clock frequency of the Zotac card is higher than the rest as well, with 1553 MHz. Inno3D increased it to 1533 MHz, while the three other cards left it at the standard 1502 MHz. Higher clock frequencies don't automatically lead to better performance, as you will see in our test results.

For the AMP! Edition card, Zotac used a special three-fan cooler. The central fan has a diameter of 8.5 centimeters, and the outer two measure 7.5 cm. It's a dual-slot cooler, and despite the fact that the heatsink therefore is pretty compact, it still has a stylish design. It has five 6mm heatpipes. The transparent orange fanblades give it the typical Zotac look. They are however not illuminated, in case you got that impression from the photo.

Like the other GeForce GTX 780 cards, the AMP! Edition has two DVI ports, one HDMI and one DisplayPort. The Zotac card has one 6-pin and one 8-pin PEG connector, along with two SLI connectors for combining a total of four 780s. The amount of video memory is again 3 GB. According to Zotac, the new card has a recommended retail price of £ 589 / € 679. That's higher than the other four cards we tested, based on the prices listed by stores on our site. The card does not come with any games.
