Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan Black 4-way SLI review

Nvidia has a new premium model and we put it through it paces - in all possible SLI configurations

SLI, 3-way SLI and 4-way SLI

As far as we have been able to determine, today there is a grand total of five GeFroce GTX Titan Black graphics cards available in the Benelux, four of which are present in the Hardware.Info Test lab, thanks to Tones.be. This allowed us the opportunity to test the cards in SLI, 3-way SLI and 4-way SLI configurations. We hardly expect people to flock in droves to the nearest store in order to purchase four GTX Titan Blacks, but nonetheless we view it as a matter of interest to determine the kind of performance this amount of GPU power can provide. Also, it is just incredibly cool.

In order to produce scorse that are comparable to our existing GPU benchmarks, we used our standard graphics cards testing system. This consists of an Intel Core i7 3960X (Sandy Bridge-E) processor, ASUS P7X79 Pro motherboard, 16 GB Corsair DDR3-1600 memory, Samsung Spinpoint F1 hard disk and a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200 watt PSU. All benchmarks were run in Windows  x64.

We tested our standard benchmarks in 1920x1080 (Full HD) using Ultra settings and 5760x1080 (3x Full HD), again using Ultra settings. For our benchmarks we used GeForce driver 334.69. Please refer to our product pages for the other cards (click the labels in the graphs) to view the drivers used for those tests. For 4K/UHD benchmarks, please follow this link to the update we published.

As we will see (and as is to be expected) most benchmarks are CPU bottlenecked to a fair degree. For that reason, we overclocked the CPU to 5 GHz in order to run some additional tests, to which we added some benchmarks for which we also overclocked the Titan Blacks.

In addition to gaming benchmarks we also ran various professional GPGPU benchmarks on a single GTX Titan Black and compared the results with the original Titan's, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti and the Radeon R9 290X. Lest we forget: this is the purpose this card was primarily designed for.
