MSI AG2712 Gaming All-in-One review

Is this the real deal?

Introduction

All-in-one PCs are an exciting concept, but in terms of performance they're usually not that interesting. They look cool and have a modern design with touch features, but for serious work or gaming a traditional desktop is still the better option. For every rule there's an exception, such as the high-end Apple iMac 27 and the powerful HP Workstation Z1 aimed at professionals. MSI wants to join that select group with the MSI AG2712, a gaming all-in-one.

When you look at the specs of the majority of all-in-ones it's clear that the manufacturer pay most attention to the screen size and the name of the processor. Whether that's a dual-core mobile Intel Core i5 or a quad-core desktop CPU is apparently less important as long as it sounds impressive. Even less attention is paid to the video card, as it seems an Nvidia or AMD sticker is enough to attract buyers. Hard disks should be large, whether they're also fast is less essential.

That means if you're a real gamer it makes little sense to buy an all-in-one, aside from the ones mentioned in the introduction. However, MSI designed its all-in-one specifically with gamers in mind.
