Introduction
With gadgets you can usually assume that you get what you pay for. A low price usually means that there are less features, and perhaps even that the quality is so-so in at least one regard. So it's nice when that you're sometimes proven wrong, that a product is on the level or even better than significantly more expensive products. The Edifier MP15 Audio Candy Plus was a pleasant surprise therefore. It's a wired speaker dock for smartphone and MP3 players, but can also serve as an MP3 players itself with an SD card reader, built-in radio and battery, with a sound quality that can definitely be called acceptable. And when you take the price into consideration, it's certainly a good deal for what you get.
The Audio Candy Plus is the follow-up to the Audio Candy that's still available. The Edifier Audio Candy Plus is available for around 40 euros, which is about the same as the popular XMI X-Mini speakers. The version of the X-Mini with built-in MP3 player and memory card reader is called X-Mini Happy cost about 60 euros, and that's with mono audio and without a display.
So on paper the Audio Candy Plus looks like good value for your money. It has two speakers, a display, an FM tuner, a memory card reader for the built-in MP3 player and it serves as a speaker dock for smartphones, tablets and laptops.
