Iomega Storcenter ix4-300d review: affordable network storage

Complete 4-bay NAS

By ,

Introduction

Today we are taking a closer look at the affordable Iomega StorCenter ix4-300d network storage device. Iomega is jointly owned by EMC and Lenovo, and the StorCenter carries the logos of both Iomega and EMC. EMC is known for its large business-oriented storage solutions, but the StorCenter ix4-300d is available without disks for a very affordable £229 or 280 euro.

The StorCenter ix4-300d is a compact NAS devices with room for four disks, two network ports, two rear USB 2.0 ports, one frontal USB 3.0 port, and a display on the front. These are features traditionally reserved for more expensive high-end devices, and makes it a pretty complete storage device.

You can buy the StorCenter ix4-300d with and without disks. The model we tested came with four 1 TB disks, but you can also have four 2 TB disks or four 3 TB disks for 8 TB and 12 TB, respectively.

There is also a model with two 2 TB disks and two vacant slots. And while it's nice there is room for expansion, you won't be able to use RAID 5 unless you add another disk.
